Premier League side Newcastle have appointed Paul Mitchell as their new sporting director.

The Magpies have moved swiftly on from Dan Ashworth – who departed for Manchester United earlier in the week – and recruited the former Monaco, RB Leipzig and Tottenham man.

Speaking on the club website, Mitchell said: “It’s with immense pride that I accept the responsibility of being Newcastle United’s new sporting director.

Monaco midfielder Mohamed Camara has been given a hefty punishment of four match ban for taping over the LGBTQ+ logo on his kit despite his country's FA backing the Muslim footballer for his 'religious reasons'

Camara, a Muslim, covered up the badge on the front of his shirt with white tape as Monaco beat Nantes 4-0 in their final Ligue 1 game of the season, with the 24-year-old scoring a penalty in that game.

He didn't take part in the initiative because of 'religious reasons'.

Anthony Martial has confirmed he is leaving Manchester United when his contract expires this summer.

The 28-year-old joined the club from Monaco nine years ago in a deal worth an initial £36million in 2015, making him at the time the most expensive teenager in world football.

The forward will now leave Old Trafford when his contract officially expires on 1 July after making 317 appearances for United, scoring 90 goals for the club.

Martial confirmed his departure in an emotional post on Instagram, thanking supporters and the club for an ‘incredibly opportunity’.
