Borussia Dortmund head coach Edin Terzic defended Ian Maatsen after the on-loan Chelsea defender came under fire for his mistake in the 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League final on Saturday evening.

Dortmund had the better chances in the opening 45 minutes at Wembley but were made to pay for missed opportunities as second-half goals from Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Junior sealed Madrid’s 15th Champions League trophy.

Maatsen, meanwhile, delivered an impressive first-half display but Madrid pounced on his loose pass in the build up to Vinicius Jr’s goal with seven minutes remaining.
